Bold and graphic

The bands of pattern look great in my living room. A very modern take on folk art.

Nice, took a week to arrive

Good quality and looks as pictured. Shipping was a bit slow but the packing was excellent.

Exactly what my shelf needed

Adds colour and warmth to my bookshelf. Really happy with it.

The craft

Not printed. Painted.

Painted by hand
Every line, by brush. Nothing printed.
8–10 hours
of brushwork on every shade.
Cotton & ceramic
Cotton shade on a matte ceramic base.
Chittara art
From the villages of Sagara, Karnataka.

Chittara began on the mud walls of homes in Karnataka, painted by Deevaru women to mark weddings, harvests and festivals. Its patterns are geometric and rhythmic, laid down in bands of earth red, white, yellow and black.

Our design stacks those bands around the shade, each one a different motif. We paint them by hand onto each shade, one at a time. By day the bands read bold and graphic. Switch it on, and each band glows in its own rhythm.

Because a person paints every piece, yours will differ slightly from the photos. That is the mark of the hand, not a flaw.
